This is a couple of marsh flies also called snail killing flies (Elgiva solicita). In Germany they are called Hornfliegen (horn flies, because of their large antennae). They are my favorite flies as almost all members of this family (Sciomyzidae) own beautiful striped eyes and they are very relaxed little fellows (not like the stressful flies in houses).

Very amusing shot, I love the colours, they are so pretty. Flies are so fascinating. I find this image so funny for some reason. Not for what they are doing, but how they are posed and look. Flies make such great subjects

As far as I know Elgiva solicita larvae are free living in freshwater but they feed on pulmonate snails.

There are a lot of species in this family (Sciomyzidae) which feed on molluscs in general. In some species the larva lives in a single mollusc till it pupates, in some species the larva hunts actively for snails.
