Gandalf The White ... by nele102 Gandalf The White ... by nele102
This is a robber fly (Philonicus albiceps, Asilidae) taken in the morning when it was still moistened with dew.

Robber flies hunt for other insects. This one prefers sandy and dry areas.

Thanks again for your comments!

@ Sheryl
Yes, I feel that way, too. I would always prefer natural and non-arranged photos over artificials.

But if the photographer declares an image as artificial or arranged a priori it's okay for me - given that the animals were not harmed.

Greetings
Nele

Ah perfect, real dew.

It disappoints when I realise bugs and flowers have been artificially sprinkled for photos. This is a great shot and doubly so because you confirm it's completely natural.

Thanks for your comments!

@ Tonje
Of course it was taken in the summer. :)

@ Kathrin
Ja, das lohnt sich wirklich. Das Licht ist viel weicher und die Insekten sind halt noch etwas geduldiger als normal. ;)

Greetings
Nele

Where is this taken? I didn't think there were any insects left at this time of the year. -_-"
